Aesop’s Fables

Based on a brilliant script by playwright Peter Terson, Isango’s production of Aesop’s Fables was turned into a vibrant and powerful musical by Mandisi Dyantyis and Pauline Malefane. Although Aesop is portrayed as a Greek dressed in a short Greek tunic the production contextualises the story in the recent history of South Africa. Aesop was historically a slave and in Terson’s script he learns that liberty comes with responsibility as he journeys to Mount Olympus meeting his animal characters on the way. Lungelo Ngamlana’s inventive and beautiful dances add to the atmosphere of this powerful moral story.

‘Aesops Fables is a must see for all.’
